Sim racers get Race of Champions opening
6 January 2018 – Organisers of the Race of Champions have created a new eRace of Champions, with two sim racers set to participate in the real-life event.
Four of the world's fastest sim racers will battle it out in order to join McLaren's World's Fastest Gamer winner Rudy van Buren in the main event.
They are F1 eSports champion Brendon Leigh, triple Project CARS World Champion Kevin Leaune, iRacing Blancpain GT3 Sprint champion Enzo Bonito and eWTCC Champion Alexander Dornieden.
The four will compete on the ROC track in Assetto Corsa and in real competition cars, and the gamer with the best combined time will be crowned eROC champion and join Van Buren.
Van Buren and the winner will form 'Team Simracing All Stars' in the ROC Nations Cup and also compete in the individual Race of Champions.
"World's Fastest Gamer is already opening doors I could not have possibly imagined," said Van Buren.
"The job as simulator driver is just the tip of the iceberg. To be competing as the virtual champion against champions of the real world is a dream for me.
"2018 is going to be an amazing year and the Race of Champions is a great way to kick it off."
The event will take place at Riyadh's King Fahd International Stadium across February 2/3.
Names confirmed so far include Juan Pablo Montoya, Hélio Castroneves, Josef Newgarden, Tom Kristensen, Lando Norris and Petter Solberg.
