Pirelli reveals tyre choices for United States GP
10 October 2017 – Formula 1 tyre supplier Pirelli has revealed the drivers' tyre selections for the United States Grand Prix, with Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull all erring on the side of caution.
For the eighth time this season, Pirelli has chosen to supply the three softest compounds for a Grand Prix weekend, bringing the Ultra Soft, Super Soft and Soft compounds to the race in Austin.
While Ultra Soft tyres remain the primary compound of choice, Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull have opted to have only seven sets of the compound per driver.
Conversely, both McLaren and Williams have been more aggressive in their selections and will receive nine sets of the Ultra Soft tyres.
With most drivers only taking one or two sets of Soft tyres, both Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton and Sauber's Pascal Wehrlein will have three sets available to them throughout the weekend.
As usual, drivers have chosen 10 out of the 13 compounds; a set of Ultra Softs will be held for Q3, and a set of Super Softs and Softs for the race (one of which must be used).
