Pirelli reveals compounds for Azerbaijan GP
11 January 2018 – Formula 1 tyre supplier Pirelli has revealed its compound selections for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Pirelli will expand its dry compound range from five to seven next season, with a pink-banded Hyper Soft and orange-ringed Super Hard – an insurance option – added to the existing tyres.
Pirelli will bring its Ultra Soft, Super Soft and Soft compounds to the Baku City Circuit, matching the combination selected for the season-opening Australian Grand Prix.
Pirelli's new Hyper Soft compound has not yet been selected.
As per 2017, one set of the softest available compound at each Grand Prix must be kept for use only in Q3, while one set of the two harder alternatives must be run for one stint of the race.
Drivers will have 13 sets of tyres available for each Grand Prix weekend, and are permitted free choice – from the three nominated compounds – for 10 of the sets.
Pirelli's 2018 compound choices:
Australia – Ultra Soft / Super Soft / Soft
Bahrain – Super Soft / Soft / Medium
China – Ultra Soft / Soft / Medium
Azerbaijan – Ultra Soft / Super Soft / Soft
