Lorenzo sets sights on first Ducati victory

11 October 2017 – Jorge Lorenzo has set his sights on capturing his first victory with Ducati during MotoGP's flyaway sequence of events.

Lorenzo joined Ducati after a nine-year spell with Yamaha and has spent much of 2017 adapting to new machinery, gradually making improvements in the process.

Having run among the lead group in recent events, front-row starter Lorenzo headed the pack for 15 of the 23 laps at the most recent round in Aragón, before ultimately coming home in third position.

Lorenzo, fourth in this year's laps-led chart, feels that he is now on the cusp of being able to record his first win since switching to Ducati.

"The podium at Aragón was very important for the team and it confirmed that we are going in the right direction," said Lorenzo.

"Now the final part of the season is about to get underway, with three back-to-back fly-away races, and my aim is the same as ever: to fight for the podium and try and get my first win with Ducati.

"Motegi is one of my favourite tracks, and I've managed to win there on a number of occasions in the past.

"I think that our bike adapts well to the characteristics of this track and so we'll have a real possibility of getting a good result."

Ducati team-mate Andrea Dovizioso, meanwhile, heads to Motegi firmly in the title hunt, as Marc Márquez's primary challenger, 16 points behind the Spaniard.

"I'm pretty confident because I've always scored good results here in MotoGP, twice taking pole and finishing second last year," he said.

"The next four races will be vitally important in the battle for the title and we're ready to fight things out right until the very end."
